Yak For Sale Page

2009 Imperial Heifer 911We focus on producing the highest quality breeding stock available and are widely recognized as the finest yak herd in North America. We offer a full range of animals; from pets to meat class to grand champions. We don't "hard sell". We will work with you to try to get you what you are looking for. Most of the yak breeders in the country are our customers and friends. If we don't have what you are looking for we can probably send you to a reputable breeder that can help you out. We pay very close attention to genetics and can help you put together a group of compatible breeders.

We retain a few exemplary animals each year to be a part of our foundation herd. We offer some of these "best of the best" animals for sale from time to time by private treaty. Because we have a large herd there are always individuals that do not fit into our seedstock breeding program and these we are motivated to sell. This does not mean they are ugly culls, for the most part they are far above average, it simply means they do not have a place in our breeding program and you can get a good buy on them.

As a large breeder we always have stock for sale. What we have available varies throughout the year; whether we have bred cows, cow/calf pairs or cows and calves. The 2009 Fall Catalog is now available for download. If you prefer, email or call and I will mail you a printed copy. The catalog is sorted by age with younger animals appearing first. I have included a list of 2009 herd bulls so you can see who the cows are exposed to. Be aware that prices can and will change without notice, some animals are priced at a young age and may get better (or worse) as they mature, this will be reflected in price changes.

You will notice in the pedigrees our linebreeding efforts. Careful linebreeding combined with aggressive culling of inferior animals concentrates desirable genetic traits. These animals tend to breed true to phenotype and can be used to upgrade other stock through outcross breeding. As you select animals for your herd keep in mind what kind of calf you want to produce. If you purchase low end stock, that is what you will have to sell. A butcher grade steer will eat the same amount of feed as a ribbon winner.

Bottle Babies! We have five bottle calves available; two heifers and three steers. Bottle babies are so pet they are almost a nuisance. If you want yaks that run up to you and beg for attention this is the way to go. Bottle heifers average around $1250 and steers are $800. If you are looking for pets, steers are the best and can be readily trained to pack.

Prices are based on the purchase of individual animals. Discounts are extended when multiple yaks are purchased. I will be happy to work with buyers that want to put together a starter herd of cows and a bull to assure that the individuals are compatible as breeders. If you see a yak you like but don’t like the price, make an offer. We can also deliver at competive rates.
